How We Spend Your Money

I have talked before on the podcast and (Probably) this blog that I really hate having to have a website. Not because I have any real issues with the concept of websites. but because I’m very bad at technology. I read somewhere that my generation (Born mid 90s- early 00s) will be the last generation able to survive without necessarily having to be computer literate. So far I am surviving, and as far as computer literacy goes, I’d say I’m intercepting at a third grade level. My nephew could probably do this better than me.

Example: I just spent about twenty five minutes trying to figure out why in the name of all that is holy members are not able to access the regular site. I could not reach the blog or the store from the member site. I also found nothing helpful online because one of the great things about the internet (That Ai and stupid people are killing) is that user generated help is sometimes really helpful. I remember a time when the ration of help to stupid was in favor of help. Nowadays the ratio has flipped. I found a half a dozen articles and posts about making a member site, and keeping unsubscribed people out of a member site, and I found a good number of people calling someone asking for help a dipshit. What I did not find was an answer to my problem. That I found by mostly random button pushing.

Okay, my complaining about something I have done to myself is done. Just needed to vent about the fact that the internet seems to be getting both worse in quality and harder to navigate.

I wanted to write about something else today. And a brief thank you to mrs Crawford from forth grade for making me learn to type so that I can type this without having to look at the screen.

I have been a YouTube user for a long time and one thing that I have always hated is people who do videos about their business with titles like, the details on my business or How much I make from my business, and then you watch the video and they don’t say anything helpful. They say random unhelpful nonsense, usually designed to sell you something, and they never give numbers. You do not owe viewers numbers about your business, Unless you make a video promising to tell them numbers about your business.

So here are numbers about my business, more specifically, how we’re gonna use the money from subscriptions.

Subscription cost: $12

(The actual places where the money goes is tricky. Right now we pay by the word, so for this example we’re gonna say that flash fiction stories are one hundred words in length.)

$6 buys a story for the site from some writer who submitted a great story. $4 went to a reader. $1 is gonna go to a fund to purchase stock for the store (Offering signed copies requires copies to sign) The final $1 is gonna go towards one of two things, Either another story buy for the site, or a project.

Projects include: A print magazine. I haven’t actually figured out if this is a good idea or if anyone would subscribe.

New Novels. The most we’ve paid for formatting, covers, and isbn is $415. When we are able to buy numbers in bulk cost goes down significantly.

Someday I hope to be able to add authors to the company who I don’t personally know.
